TRAVELLING

SOUND VIDEO INSTALLATION / GENERATIVE FILM / FOUR-SCREEN MULTI-PROJECTION

Created in 2007 between Tangier and Dakar, Travelling is a black-and-white generative video installation built around a car journey through vast African desert landscapes.

A man and a woman share the confined space of the vehicle. They do not truly know one another, speak only occasionally, and rarely look at each other. Yet, as the journey unfolds, a fragile intimacy slowly emerges. Through fragments of conversation, confidences, silences and drifting thoughts, each gradually begins to reveal themselves to the other.

The landscape becomes far more than a backdrop. Filmed in the continuity of movement, it operates as an inner projection: mineral expanses, endless roads, passing villages and shifting light compose a mental geography in which exterior and interior slowly dissolve into one another.

The black and white imagery heightens this sensation of suspension and drift. The film appears inhabited by an already distant memory, hovering between documentary and fiction, lived presence and waking dream.

As in several of my generative works, the editing is based on evolving combinations of images, texts and sound. The narrative never entirely settles. It advances through fragments, repetitions and variations, allowing an open form of storytelling to emerge, where landscapes and voices become the shifting traces of lives in transit.
