Koï

Created for the Nuit des Musées at Hôtel des Arts – Centre méditerranéen d’art contemporain, Koï is a video and sound installation based on footage shot in a public park in Tokyo.

The film presents extreme close-ups of a densely populated koi pond. Shot at very close range, the bodies of the fish become almost abstract: scales, movements, reflections, mouths and shifting masses of colour merge into a dense and fluid visual material.

Projected at monumental scale onto the façade of the building, the images temporarily transform the architecture into a vibrating liquid surface.

The extreme framing creates a loss of spatial reference. The pond becomes a mental — almost cosmic — space, suspended somewhere between contemplation and a diffuse sense of unease. Through this immersion, Koï seeks to evoke a physical perception of movement, density and living matter.

The soundtrack, broadcast simultaneously inside and outside the venue, extends this sensory experience, reinforcing the impression of continuous flow and temporal suspension.
