In situ

IN SITU is an online intervention proposing a temporary reconfiguration of the Musée de Grenoble's website. The project consists in subverting the informational architecture of the existing site over the course of one year, introducing an alternative navigation structured around a series of photographs depicting architectural details.

By isolating fragments — angles, surfaces, junctions, textures — the intervention redirects the visitor's gaze: from content toward context, from the work toward its environment, from reading toward exploration. The site is no longer merely a vehicle for mediation; it becomes a space of experience in its own right, traversed by a logic of drift and recomposition.

This approach questions the emergent forms of mediation bound to digital environments at the turn of the 2000s. Rather than reinforcing a logic of access to information, IN SITU introduces an element of disorientation — a tension held between functional use and sensory experience.

It thus enters into resonance with the analyses of Maud Gauchet-Lopez and Marie-Sylvie Poli, who draw attention to the paradoxical character of early forms of online mediation for contemporary art: at once devices of access and spaces for the reconfiguration of experience, frequently detached from their original context, producing unstable representations of the work and of its reception.

IN SITU operates as a discreet disturbance: it momentarily reconfigures pathways, unsettles visible hierarchies, and proposes another way of inhabiting an online space — no longer as a transparent interface, but as a territory to be traversed.
