PROJET COCHON

(2008) — Electroacoustic Work for Mathilde Monfreux's Solo

This electroacoustic composition was created for Mathilde Monfreux's first solo, forged within a close relationship between sonic writing and bodily commitment. Music here is conceived as an active material — one capable of accompanying, resisting, or displacing the states traversed by the dance.

The score is organised around raw textures, unstable sonic masses, sudden eruptions and suspensions. It explores a physicality of sound, close to friction, pressure, and deformation — qualities that enter into resonance with an intense stage presence, at times on the very edge of rupture.

The title Projet Cochon carries a deliberately ambivalent charge, poised between assumed triviality and organic force. The music extends this tension by working with materials that oscillate between the grotesque and the sensate, noise and vibration, control and overflow.

Constructed in dialogue with the choreographic process, the sonic work privileges states over fixed forms. It creates an unstable environment — a field of forces within which the body may confront, resist, or allow itself to be traversed.

In Projet Cochon, sound does not come to illustrate the dance: it constitutes a partner to it — at times frontal, at times subterranean — participating in a shared physical and perceptual experience.
