Generative and interactive video installation, black and white, multi-screen projection on two screens

CHAOSMOS RADICELLE is an interactive video and sound installation based on a principle of combinatory generation. Using 200 video and sound loops, the system continuously produces variable sequences, juxtapositions, and transitions, creating an unstable and open cartography.

The images were filmed in Genoa in 1998 — Italy’s largest port city, suspended between sea and mountains, whose labyrinthine structure and complex circulations evoke a form of contemporary “baroque.” This approach resonates with the idea of a chaosmos: a world perceived not as an ordered totality, but as an assemblage of forces, folds, and trajectories.

To film the city, the protocol consisted in asking different inhabitants to indicate what they considered to be the “city center.” From these multiple responses emerges a subjective and fragmented geography in which points of reference constantly shift and recombine.

The viewer is invited to navigate this space through an interactive station, moving “from any point to any other point.” The installation thus proposes an experience of drift through a geopoetic environment composed of speeds, intensities, and discontinuities. Montage is no longer fixed; it becomes an operation unfolding in real time, shared with the spectator.

CHAOSMOS RADICELLE was also released as a CD-ROM edition by Éditions Cent Pages, offering an adapted version of the installation.
